Disney Cruise Line Celebrates Keel Laying of Disney Treasure

Disney Cruise Line reached a major milestone for its next ship Disney Treasure this week when the keel was laid during a ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

The celebration included a coin ceremony, where a newly-minted coin was placed under the keel as a symbol of good fortune for the vessel. The commemorative coin used featured an etching of Captain Minnie Mouse in a new, adventure-themed outfit that has been specifically designed for Disney Treasure.

The theme of adventure will pave the way for the onboard experiences that await guests on Disney Treasure, which is set to debut in 2024. Treasure will be the second of three new ships Disney Cruise Line has planned for delivery through 2025.

The Wish-class vessels are powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 staterooms each.

In related news, Disney Cruise Line announced yesterday that it will be homeporting its upcoming mega ship in Singapore. The vessel is the former Global Dream, which was under construction for Dream Cruises until the brand’s parent company, Genting Hong Kong, went bankrupt at the beginning of 2022.

Disney purchased the partially-completed vessel and is redesigned various aspects of it to align with the Disney cruise brand. It will be Disney Cruise Line’s largest ship ever, with an estimated guest capacity of 6,000.
