Katy Perry Christens Norwegian Cruise Line’s First Prima-Class Ship in Iceland

Norwegian Cruise Line christened its newest ship, Norwegian Prima, in Reykjavík, Iceland on Saturday.

The 143,535 gross ton ship is the first in the brand-new Prima class, and debuted with more than 2,500 guests on board.

Guests at the christening ceremony were treated to a performance by popular Icelandic musician Daði og Gagnamagnið, before Prima‘s godmother Katy Perry took the stage to name and christen the vessel with a champagne bottle break across the ship’s hull. The three-story Prima Theater & Club was then transformed into a whimsical backdrop for Perry to perform some of her most popular songs including “Roar,” “Firework,” California Gurls,” and “Teenage Dream.”

Norwegian Prima offers the largest variety of suite categories available at sea, as well as The Haven — a ship-within-a-ship complex with its own pool area, restaurant, bar, and more.

The vessel also includes The Rush and The Drop — the fastest slides at sea, as well as a three-story go-kart racetrack, Ocean Boulevard outdoor walkway, The Concourse sculpture garden, and infinity-style pools at Infinity Beach.

Starting September 3, Norwegian Prima will depart on inaugural voyages to northern Europe from the Netherlands, Denmark, and England. She will then make her way to the U.S. and sail cruises to the Caribbean from New York City, Galveston, and Miami in October and November.

For the winter 2023-2024 season, the ship will settle into her homeports of Port Canaveral, Florida and Galveston, Texas.
