Cunard Places Occupancy Caps on Two Ships Due to Staffing Issues

For sailings from this June to August, Cunard has placed occupancy caps on Queen Elizabeth in Alaska, and Queen Victoria in Europe.

Cunard said that the passenger capacity limit is due to issues with being able to get crew members to the ships.

Several bookings will be canceled. The cruise line is contacting impacted guests over the coming weeks. They’ll receive a full refund, as well as a 25 percent future cruise credit redeemable on any cruise booked by December 31, 2024.

New Zealand Plans to Reopen Border Early

New Zealand has announced that it plans to reopen its border to international visitors on July 31 of this year — two months earlier than planned. Tourism Minister Stuart Nash said on Tuesday that he fully expects cruise ships to be back and sailing around the country by October.

New Zealand’s neighboring country, Australia, welcomed its first cruise ship since the industry shutdown last month.

When New Zealand reopens to ships, the cruise sector will have been shutdown for 31 months.
