Carnival Splendor Sets Sail, Completes Carnival Cruise Line Restart

Carnival Cruise Line’s full 23-ship fleet is finally back in service, as Carnival Splendor sets sail today from Seattle bound for Alaska.

To commemorate the occasion, Carnival Cruise Line hosted a “Back to Fun” event at the Port of Seattle to welcome the first guests onboard. Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy and Captain Francesco La Fauci checked Carnival Splendor off a tally board listing all of the Carnival ships, signifying the completion of the cruise line’s restart.

In total, the line has three vessels in Alaska this year: Carnival Splendor and Spirit sailing from Seattle, and Carnival Miracle making trips north from San Francisco — among the first voyages Carnival Cruise Line has ever sailed from The Golden City.

Carnival Splendor will spend the spring and summer sailing seven-night cruises, stopping in destinations including Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and Victoria. The voyages also include a day of scenic cruising in Tracy Arm Fjord.

After finishing its Alaska season, Splendor will head back Down Under to its usual home in Australia, marking Carnival’s return to cruising in that country. Starting in October, the ship will offer a variety of roundtrip itineraries from Sydney — most ranging from three to 12 nights long.

Carnival Splendor debuted in 2008, and is the only Concordia-class ship in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. Because of this, she’s also referred to as a Splendor-class vessel.

Splendor was originally ordered for Costa Cruises, but was transferred to Carnival Cruise Line during construction. The other vessels in the Concordia-class are in the Costa Cruises fleet.

The 113,300 gross ton, 3,012 passenger ship features a 21,000 square foot spa and fitness center, making it one of the largest at sea. It includes a thermal suite and thalassotherapy pool covered by a glass done.

In 2019, Carnival Splendor underwent a dry dock and received a new WaterWorks aqua park, Serenity Retreat adults-only sundeck, RedFrog Pub, Guy’s Burger Joint, and the Alchemy Bar.

Carnival’s full restart makes it the first major cruise line to resume passenger service on all of its ships.
